Mt Everest summit

At the end of the day, I am aware that I will never live this particular day again.  I am grateful to be alive.

Towering over the earth at 8850 metres above sea level, climbing Mount Everest may seem to some to be the greatest test of human strength, will and determination, but to Sharon Cohrs this battle was nothing compared to her recent fight with breast cancer. Sharon is a motivational speaker who shares her tumultuous journey, proving to us all that with self belief and commitment we can all conquer mountains!

Standing on Top of the World – Mt Everest (8848m)

At 9.30am on the 20th of May 2011, Sharon Cohrs reached the summit of Mt Everest (8848m).  In doing so, Sharon became the 1st Breast Cancer survivor in the world to achieve this. Climbing with her husband, Allan, they became the 2nd Australian couple to stand on top of the world together.

Sharon was diagnosed with Breast cancer in 2007 and endured an emotional and life-changing ordeal, having numerous medical procedures including a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, along with confronting the psychological affects that impact so many women and men.

But Sharon, being a focused and determined woman, refused to give in, and made a decision to return to her passion for climbing.

Shortly after being told she was in remission, Sharon returned to the Himalaya’s, climbing Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Mt Baruntse and Mera Peak.  As a lead-up to Mt Everest, Sharon was able to prove to herself that she had the strength and determination to succeed in what is an extremely demanding and often-hazardous pursuit.

Sharon Cohrs is a motivated, independent woman, inspiring people to treat each day as precious, to stay positive and live with hope, for regardless of your situation in life, your fears, trepidations, or your physical limitations, you can still achieve great things, you just have to believe.

In April 2012, Sharon and Allan are offering you the opportunity to join them on a life-changing trek to Everest Base Camp.  For more details, go to the EBC trek page or contact us via email.
